SafePlus Assessment
Making business better with SafePlus
SafePlus is a health and safety improvement toolkit for businesses. It was developed jointly by WorkSafe New Zealand, ACC and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
If it’s not compulsory, why do so many businesses do it?
The gap between what you have documented in your policies and what’s happening in reality can be costing time, money, and culture. Having an expert third party observe, understand, and review what’s happening is often what’s needed to refine and improve your health and safety and worker engagement.
Emma, one of our directors here at Emendas, is a licensed SafePlus assessor. Helping to make businesses better and more self-sustaining has been the driving force behind her work for decades, and the SafePlus framework is a fantastic tool for achieving this.
What is a SafePlus assessor and how can they help your business? They are independent, HASANZ-registered professionals who are trained to carry out assessments according to the SafePlus framework.
The SafePlus tools consider three very important aspects of health and safety: leadership, risk management, and worker engagement. By tracking these against carefully chosen indicators, we can identify an organisation's stage of maturity and chart a way forward.
It’s Emma’s view that a SafePlus assessment is much more than just a checklist; it’s a deep and comprehensive look at what’s really happening in your business. Through interviews and observation, she gains understanding of what’s going on and can make informed predictions about what could happen. From there, you can implement preventative measures and make the right changes. Although SafePlus is widely considered a safety tool—and it is—it can offer huge benefit to your human resources systems too. Emma’s deep experience in both disciplines, plus her ongoing study of organisational psychology, provides holistic and far-reaching insight that touches all aspects of good governance.
An organisational psych lens makes Emma’s SafePlus assessments comprehensive and future-focused. Rather than just receiving a list of fixes to implement, businesses receive insight into the gaps between work-as-imagined and work-as-done—plus guidance and advice to help them move in the right direction.
Your unique organisational IP is valuable. Checkboxes won’t help you to preserve it; that requires informed advice from someone who knows how to achieve compliance while retaining culture.
